Ground floor of the Grand Prayer Hall The ground floor has a verandah with murals of the 4 directional protectors and murals related to monastic discipline and the Shambhala pureland. Inside the hall are 46 pillars and the hall holds up to 700 monks seated in prayers or meditation. One both sides of the hall are murals depicting the past lives of the holy beings. Sets of Buddhist canons, the Kangyur and Tangyur, are kept on the shelves near the altar. The room on the left is a Chapel with 1000 Tara statues. Moving along the altar are shrines of Guhyasamaja, Sakyamuni & disciples, Tsong Khapa & disciples, the founding abbot Tsako Ngawang Drakpa and Manjusri. The chapel on the right houses 1000 statues of Sakyamuni the Buddha. Just outside the chapel is a pillar with another pillar bound to it. This is the preserved original first pillar of the historical Grand Prayer Hall. |
