Exit Monastic Museum

The Monastic Museum

The museum building used to be the residence of the founding abbot Ngawang Drakpa and is one of the 8 original buildings constructed under the supervision of this great master in 1414. Only the exterior walls survived the 1960's destruction and the original walls were used in the rebuilding. The building now houses the Monastic Museum, the abbot's office and a suite for visiting high lamas.
